capespear6_gsl2066The last day of Sound Symposium and as sad as we are to see it go we could not have composed a better day as a send off for this years event. There were great outdoor performances by the Umbrella Ensemble performing Emily Doolittle's REEDS at Oxen Pond in the MUN Botanical Garden and Moritz Eggert's BREAKING THE WAVES for the Cape Spear Project last night.

Photo by Greg Locke © 2010The Umbrella Ensemble led their audience through the trees and trails of the gardens and Eggert led his audience along the sea coast and WWII era bunkers at Cape Spear National Park, the most eastern point of land in North America, delivering them to performers nestled in the alcoves and rocks as the North Atlantic crashed on the shore and whales put on their own show in the surrounding ocean.

Saturday's Harbour Symphony was BLOWING IN THE FOG by Gordon King.

Moritz Eggert's radio play, THE CALL, part one of the Cape Spear, along with his map of the performance area are still available.

Sound Symposium Technical Director Rick Barella prepares the Cape Spear Project. Photo by Greg Locke © 2010 Rick says check out the Sound Symposium XV photo gallery for more photos from this years event.

Thanks to all the performers and volunteers to made this years event a memorable one and a special thanks to you who came out to experience the worlds best in new music and sound art.

Stay tuned to SoundSymposium.com as we continue to bring you Sound Symposium Presents ...., our on going new music series, NIGHT MUSIC, monthly improv at The Ship Pub and WORLD SOUND in the fall of 2011 bringing the best world music performers to St. John's.
