The Lina Allemano Four
lina08-2Toronto's LINA ALLEMANO FOUR has been hailed as one of Canada's most vibrant cutting edge avant-jazz groups.  Known internationally for their inventiveness and synergy, they deftly blur the line between composition and improvisation.  Their music showcases Lina's progressive and open compositional style combined with her band's exquisite expressiveness and knack for the unexpected.  A stimulating dynamic of interaction and spontaneity assures that the group's performances are always lighthearted and full of surprises.  The band has toured extensively over the past 6 years, having released 3 widely acclaimed CDs: Jargon (2010), Gridjam (2008), and Pinkeye (2006).

Lina Allemano Four's recent highlights include: Coast to Coast USA Tour; Feature Performances at Jazz Festivals and Major Tours across Canada; Recordings for CBC Radio and TVO; Nominations for Canadian Independent Music Awards' Favorite Jazz Group and National Jazz Awards Acoustic Group of the Year.

kristinaszutor.jpgPianist Kristina Szutor is a native of British Columbia who has lived in St.John's Newfoundland for the past fifteen years where she is associate professor at Memorial University's School of Music. She holds a masters degree from the Juilliard School of Music and a doctorate in piano performance from the University of British Columbia.

She has performed throughout Canada and in Switzerland, Spain, the United State and Brazil. She can be heard frequently on CBC radio both locally and nationally. She has a CD of solo piano music entitled Bookends in Time which features music from the beginning and the end of the twentieth century and she can also be heard on soprano Jane Leibel's CD entitled, Songs and Sonnets, and on Newfoundland composer Michael Parker's CD, Lyre.

Voyage to Canada, her newest collaborative CD with colleague, soprano Carolyn Schiller is soon due for release.

Michelle CheramyFlutist Michelle Cheramy holds degrees from the University of British Columbia, Indiana University and Rice University, where she completed her doctoral degree under Leone Buyse.

She has appeared as soloist with the Edmonton and Newfoundland Symphonies and with the Houston Chamber Orchestra, and is a frequent recitalist and clinician across Canada and in the US. She has been featured in radio broadcasts in both the US and Canada. Cheramy takes a special interest in performing programs which blend old and new repertoire in compelling ways, and which bridge the gulf between the performing art forms. Collaborations have included work with award-winning theatre director Jillian Keiley, artist and poet Christopher Pratt and composers such as Karim Al-Zand, Jack Behrens, Heather Schmidt and Clifford Crawley in the premiers of solo and chamber works for flute.
