Faceless Forces of Bigness

May 29, 2018

The Faceless Forces of Bigness (FFoB) are an electronic collective. For the past 17 years the FFoB have explored generative composition within the parameters of real time improvisation. The FFoB create music and moving images using analog modular synthesizers networked to cutting edge video authoring tools.

D.S Adams produces, engineers, and creates experimental music in collaboration with artists the likes of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, David Tudor, Pauline Oliveros and John Cage.

Justin Stephenson is a Canadian Screen Award winning filmmaker and moving image designer, collaborating with such artists as Gord Downie, David Cronenberg, Atom Egoyan, and Robert Lepage.

Kurt Swinghammer is a multidisciplinary artist. As a musician, painter, composer, and designer, his solo work and collaborations have included work with Ron Sexsmith, Mary Margaret O’Hara, Peggy Baker.

Michael Wojewoda is a multiple Juno/Polaris award winning producer and engineer, collaborating with such artists as Buffy SainteMarie, Barenaked Ladies, and Rheostatics.

FFoB will perform a unique piece developed specially for Sound Symposium. The ensemble performs in the center of the room with video projected on one or more large scale screens. The audience is situated around the performers, adding to the immersive experience. Modual analog synthesis with its endless potential for recursive-generative music making drives the sonic component of FFoB. Each performer creates and shares voltage-based compositional elements with the others. This network integrates with the generative fideo engine to create nuanced improvisations in 4 channel surround sound.
